These threads full of enchantment… (Yeh Moh Moh Ke Dhaagey…)

Instantly fell in love with this composition, and strange thing about this one is that every person I shared it with also loved it. It’s not just the lyrics, or the music with the earthy tones and superbly picked Raag Yaman Kalyan by composer Anu Malik or extremely well chosen Papon‘s voice for his unique texture, but as a whole the piece is so much more than a sum of talent behind it, it has almost reached a state of magic.

Translation:

These threads full of enchantment,
have entangled in your caress…
No clue or hint I can fathom,
how this knot could be unravelled…
Each shred hums in my body,
like a stream from the heaven…

You must be little deranged,
That I got to be your chosen…
How you did listen so rightly,
All unsaid that I kept within…

You are like day,
I’m a night, let’s merge
into one another
For hues of the evening…

These threads full of enchantment,
have entangled in your caress…
No clue or hint I can fathom,
how this knot could be unravelled…

Never was it ever carefree,
way now heart is becoming…
As in all letters of love did find
a new destination for blooming…

On empty streets,
let’s stroll blindly…
and reach some place without
any planning…

These threads full of enchantment,
have entangled in your caress…
No clue or hint I can fathom,
how this knot could be unravelled…

Original Lyrics:

Yeh moh moh ke dhaage
Teri ungliyon se ja uljhe

Yeh moh moh ke dhaage
Teri ungliyon se ja uljhe
Koi toh toh na laage
Kis tarah girah ye suljhe
Hai rom rom iktaara
Hai rom rom iktaara
Jo baadalon mein se guzre

Yeh moh moh ke dhaage
Teri ungliyon se ja uljhe
Koi toh toh na laage
Kis tarah girah ye suljhe

Tu hoga zara paagal, tune mujhko hai chuna
Tu hoga zara paagal, tune mujhko hai chuna
Kaise tune ankahaa, tune ankahaa sab sunaa
Tu hoga zara paagal, tune mujhko hai chuna

Tu din sa hai, main raat
Aa na dono mill jaayein shaamon ki tarah

Yeh moh moh ke dhaage
Teri ungliyon se ja uljhe
Koi toh toh na laage
Kis tarah girah ye suljhe

Ki aisa beparwah mann pehle toh na tha
Ki aisa beparwah mann pehle toh na tha
Chitthiyon ko jaise mill gaya
Jaise ik naya sa pataa
Ki aisa beparwah mann pehle toh na tha

Khaali raahein, hum aankh moonde jaayein
Pahunche kahin toh bewajah

Yeh moh moh ke dhaage
Teri ungliyon se ja uljhe
Koi toh toh na laage
Kis tarah girah ye suljhe

– Original lyrics by a screen-writer and lyricist (with great passion of story-telling): Varun Grover. Quite deservingly this piece brought him the India’s prestigious National Filmfare Award of Best Lyrics for year 2015-2016.

Watch out here the struggle that talent behind went through to get this masterpiece composed with such perfection…

    • 🙂 I too fell in love with it, the moment I listened to it the very first time.
The texture of voice, the poetry and the music… everything is unique and rare.
I had a firm belief that it must have cast the very similar spell onto others as well…
