Dastaan (The Legend)

.

Poem:

Dastaan ki ab k baar harf jun mei likhunga.
Tujko Laila khudko Majnun mei likhunga.

Peeyunga nahi ghoot bhi jab talak mein…
tawatar tera naam hichkyon mei likhunga.

Khumar kitna ho sounga nahi jab talak.
na apna naam un hatheliyon mein likhunga.

Aise to kahi aaye muj ko sulanay walay
Doston ka naam hi surkhiyon mei likhunga.

Kyun har danay pe maala ki tu bahaye ashq?
Mei jama kiye huay sab motiyon mei likhunga.

Kahan gaye batlanay walay humein tarikh,
Parhoge tum – jb jun ka tun mei likhunga…

Kal phir se niglay ga Yunus ko yeh samandar
Mein phir tera naam seepyon mein likhunga.

Bhej de khat gar likhay tunay bhi is naam par
Har lafz se pehl ab chhitiyon mei likhunga…

Ghadiyan beetayi intezaar mei jo ho k paghal
Murjhay phulon ki pankhriyon mei likhunga.

Peelunga honton se tere zehr ho k ho amrit.
Paigam ye jalnay wali kashtyon mein likhunga.

Mil kar tuj se jo zehr pee bhi lu hokar ghafil
Mei kalma La-ila -haa seeskiyon mein likhunga.

Sohani tu muj se bas milne ka intezaam kar.
Rahi dastaan teri angdayon mei likhunga.

— Dedicated to the Laila-Majnu of the legendary world and the contemporary one.
Yes, a delibrate liberty is taken in the qaafias of matla vs. the rest of the poem, they’re similar yet they’re not… Like the legend of Layla and Majnun.
