Tum nahi ho… (You are missing…)

A night full of stars devoid of moon, is akin to a song of love wihtout a tune.

Poem:

Wohi raat, wohi taray hein par tum nahin ho…
Jaise raag to saray hon par tarannum nahi ho…

Dost hon mehfil mein par aapsa qareeb nahi ho,
Jaise gulistaan mein phool hon par tabassum nahi ho.

Ik to deir sa aana un ka aur phir aana kisi k sath.
Goya mayyat ho par ik chehray par ghum nahi ho.

Ik jaga berukhi ho teri, dusri jagah tera hi khwaab.
Kese mumkin hai dono mein tasaadum nahi ho?

Kese karay phool gar karay bhi shikayat shajr se…
Jab bethe to hon sirhanay par takallum nahi ho.

Ik aankh yaar par thehri hai dusri jaam par…
Tair lo jitna marzi jb shikwa-e-khum nahi ho.

Ab bhujna nahi parta unko haal us subah ka…
Jahan neend ho, khwab ho, par tum nahi ho.

Jin aankohn k samnay aajao tum wahan shartya
ye mumkun nahi k lahun mei talatum nahi ho…

Sohani, jab dil ko mere dil par uske dastaras nahi ho…
Phir kia farq k falak nahi ho mah-o-anjum nahi ho.

— Dedicated to those missing someone. As they say in French – the language of love: “Tu me manques” (which translates not to “I miss you…” but the greater “you are missing from me“)…

Credits: The opening line of the matla for the poem was provided by Madam Sarah Awan.
